El Alamein Weather and Climate: Photo of the Oracle TempleLocated on the northern coastline of Egypt and next to the Mediterranean Sea, the El Alamein area offers a fairly temperate climate, with hot days and chilly nights. The seasons in El Alamein are split into two very distinct periods, with the winter falling from November through April, when the weather is pleasant and favourable.

Between May and October, El Alamein's climate heats up somewhat, suiting those who like to sunbathe and slowly roast on nearby beaches. At this time of the year, many locals from the hottest parts of Egypt arrive in this area and other spots along the nearby Alexandrian coast, so tourists will need to compete with Egyptians for rooms at the best hotel resorts.

During the winter months of El Alamein, rain can be expected at any time, with downpours being rather heavy from time to time. This rainy weather results in muddy streets and areas of flooding, although this rarely lasts long.

El Alamein's winter months average 18°C / 64°F or 19°C / 66°F by day, plummeting at night to just above 9°C / 48°F at night, particularly in both January and February. For the hottest weather, sun lovers should visit between July and September, when daytime temperatures average 29°C / 84°F and often top 30°C / 86°F.

Each year, Egypt's climate can become especially breezy from March to May, with strong winds creating sandstorms, which are known locally as 'Khamsin' and by Europeans as the 'Sirocco' winds. This dusty spell soon passes, but can cause temperatures to rise dramatically in a matter of hours.
